Your Character's Name: [Rio] “Claire! Hey Claire wake up!”
She totally looks worn out. Clothes are filthy, hair is tangled up, eyes are baggy and she is definitely not as attractive right now as when I first saw her. But after seeing what has happened to our friends I don’t blame her. This is just another good reason for us to stop rolling forward and take a break. I shake her harder this time to get a response this time.
“What is it Rio?” she grunts at me all sleepy.
“Claire I have to tell you something. I think we have to stop this.”
Her eyes instantly got wider and anxious. I am not sure how bad she will take this right now but I am sure she will get over it eventually. Anyways, right now she is looking at me as though she is expected to hear a death in the family or something.
“Please don’t tell me you are leaving me too Rio? I know how to handle myself but I don’t know if I can deal with that right now. We just lost everyone just hours ago and now you want to just leave me here after all of what we’ve been through!”
I always told myself every time I got myself in some deep shit that if I would have been in control and that if people would have done things my way nothing would have gone wrong because I came up with the plan. Well my plan that I had just now absolutely failed because out of all the scenarios I did not expect her to call me out like that. Not only does this fail upsets me but it also hurts my pride since I came up with the brilliant plan of waking her up and telling her while she is still half asleep that I am leaving. That way she will not have enough energy to think about it and most likely agree with leaving off the hook without a battle. Based off the tone of her voice I doubt she is ready to part ways right now. Guess it’s time for plan b, which involves bringing up my charm a bit.
“I just did not think you were that type of person Rio! I know you must be thinking about them, I mean how couldn’t you be? We worked as a team long enough to even build some sort of relationship. Moving on and forgetting their death is soulless and I know you have a soul Rio.” I have no idea where this girl is going and how much she pays attention to me but it is really beginning to freak me out. She must have good observational skills or I am losing my perfect poker face. Nah! I doubt it’s me and she is sadly mistaken if she thinks I am going to expose myself like this again. I hate when people see through me because I have nothing good to show for, at least that’s what I think. Only she and Evelyn have been able to read me like a book despite the outer image I give everyone. I can’t afford to fall for another girl to then leave her hanging like I did with my Evelyn and now I can’t see my baby daughter Lily. But this girl Claire is something, we have been through things together that I never experienced with Evelyn. We witnessed plenty of deaths and actually got away from many near death experiences together so the least I can do is give her proper farewell.
“Okay, okay. How about this? I heard there is a small bar in this town how about we talk more about this there after breakfast and maybe a couple of drinks. You are right; it is inhuman to just continue on normally after watching our friends fall in battle.”
If I want this to go smoothly I am going to have to appear to be on her side and also need to loosen her up, something alcohol does just nicely. We find the so called bar, it looked more like a restaurant to me since I saw more people eating than drinking. The weirdest thing about this place was not the fact that the menu was mostly foods and about a dozen of drinks to choose from but that the restaurant was missing that familiar smell you expect every one of them to have. I look around trying to figure this out and then finally I find my answer behind the counter on a big sign that says: NO SMOKING! I could not believe that in a world polluted and full of filthy shit all over the place that there would be a spot in this shit stained world that worried about maintaining clean. What kind of town did we run into? Anyways, I turn to Claire to see if she had noticed the same thing but she obviously had bigger things in her mind because her eyes were dead on fixed at mine. I think she is trying to see if I am going to play my same cards and lie my way out of this situation and just ditch her. But you know what I am actually not going to need to lie on this one, although I might have to get on her good side to do it this way.
The restaurant looked really clean compared to every other place I have ever been to and the air felt and smelled clean too.
“This is probably the best place we have ever been to don’t you think Claire?” trying to break the ice.
“Yeah. I guess you are right. Listen Rio just tell me why and just be straight with me okay. I know you are leaving, it’s all right, I have been thinking about it while walking here and I am ready to do whatever is necessary to achieve my goal with or without you.”
“Is that so? Well you really want to know the truth? I have been up all night thinking about how we left our buddies locked up with those killers. I thought about forgetting this mission and focusing on finding my family. I thought of waking you up and just saying goodbye to leave and hopefully find what I thought would make me happy. But you know what? You just made me realize something; I was given a new beginning with you guys. A way of starting a new family and instead I allowed most of them to die again. I am not running away like before; let’s go find that place you are looking for all right?”
I cannot believe what I am doing. I just put all of my chips on this bet hoping to get what I want. Let’s hope that this relationship sticks this time otherwise I am out of luck.
“Don’t worry Rio this is going to work out I can feel it. Oh and thanks for betting all on me I appreciate it.”
